UP by Jawbone Review
UP by Jawbone is one of the most progressive connected platforms in terms of creating meaning out of activity data. The app allows users to record not only physical activity, but also the hours they sleep and the food they consume - factors that are just as important in a healthy lifestyle. In addition, UP tracks mood and water intake, and automatically cross-references all of these user entered data categories with each other.
The UP Band doesn't have an optical heart rate sensor like the Fitbit One, nor does it display a high-tech OLED screen like a Nike FuelBand or Motorola MotoActv. Instead, a thin strip of silicone wraps around the wearer's wrist and is secured by a small hook clasp. On the back, a function button and a 3.5mm jack that's protected by a snap-on cap are located. The UP app communicates with the device wirelessly via Bluetooth Smart.
In the UP app, a full timeline displays all of your activity and sleep stats as well as markers when you've reached personal goals. The Trends section offers a more in-depth look at your data by breaking down sleep and activity categories such as deep vs. light sleep and waking up times.
UP also connects with other apps and hardware to give you personalized notifications - for instance, when your favorite music comes on or when it's time to get up. The app can even serve as a silent, vibrating alarm clock that wakes you up during the most optimal sleep cycle based on your sleep patterns.
